Please follow the steps as to care for your canvas - photos blocks and canvas scrolls:
- You will want to treat your gallery wrap just like any other piece of art and just like any art work you may experience some unwanted scratches, these can be touched up with any type of artificial ink, pen or marker which can be purchased at any local art or craft store.
- When choosing the perfect spot for your canvas we recommend placing the canvas where it will not be subject to direct sunlight, for an extended period of time. Though your canvas is sprayed with a UV protection, sunlight can cause discoloration and damage to your print.
- In addition to direct sunlight it is best to avoid extreme temperature and humidity, this can cause the canvas to become loose and sag on the stretching bars. If this occurs just lean your canvas against a safe surface and mist the open back of your print with warm water, as the canvas dries it will tighten up again.
- If you would need to clean your canvas just use a soft dry or slightly damp cloth and gently wipe away dirt and dust. Do not use any types of cleaning products or other chemical solutions, this may have a reaction with the UV protection spray.
- After you’ve purchased your new art work the first thing to think about is placement. NEVER hang or place your canvas art work directly above a heating unit stove or fire place. Where it could be subjected to high heat. You also want to avoid areas of direct sunlight/ pronounced humidity like near windows or in bathrooms or kitchen heat. Sunlight or humidity factors might cause shrinking and expansion of the print layer and fading inks that will resort in cracks or failing of your print.
- HEAT, SUNLIGHT, AND MOISTURE. These three condition are deadly for canvas art which is rarely hidden behind glass the way paper art is. When dusting your canvas you can dust it with a slightly damp cloth or soft dusting dry cloth as this should be able to soothe most cleaning needs. A soft cloth such as cotton or microfiber will work best. To avoid damaging your item do not rub your canvas when cleaning but dust softly.
- If you must handle the print do not put pressure on the image a canvas is fabric and will stretch or tear if care isn’t taken. Always hold on the side where the stretch bars are located, never attempt to rub the surface of the image with your finger or fingernails as this could scratch the surface of the print.
- Canvas need to breath so don’t store your printed canvas inside air tight containers such as plastic bags or behind glass. Moisture may become trapped inside and cause damaged to the image. Canvas experience small subtle overtime due to molt atmosphere changes so it is best to display them to allow natural airflow. It is not advisable to display your print where air pollutants, heat or high humidity can be of concern in kitchens/bathrooms or heat sources such as forced air vents and radiators should be avoided.
- To take extra care of your canvas and make it last even longer, you can spray your canvas with a clear spray found at any hardware store, this is advisable to do every 6-12 months. This will trap the color in for years to come. Please note that your canvas will fade over time if you do not make use of this step.
- Canvas scrolls should never just be rolled up without a protective layer over the canvas itself. always protect the canvas before you roll it up. When you receive your canvas scroll it may have some folds in it from being boxed or transported, just hang it up and leave it for 2-3 days, the folds will come out and you will have a straight canvas again. also follow basic steps above for the canvas scrolls
- Photo prints and photo blocks. Please never put your photos blocks on top of each other always make sure you have a protective layer of some sort to separate them, even them please always put them face to face and back to back when handling them. Please remember photo blocks and photo boxes are photo prints without a glass layer in front of them. They will fade over time, so for longer lasting images, please follow the same procedure above for canvas as to where and how to hang them to make them last longer over time.
